Sexual health need not decline with age, whether you are a woman approaching menopause or a man experiencing erectile dysfunction.
Maintaining a healthy sex life involves a complex interplay of underlying issues: diet and nutrition, libido, state of mental health, hormones, blood flow, cardiac health, level of exercise and fitness, self-identity, immune function, and more. Here at WholeHealth, we understand this and structure treatments accordingly, determining what solutions is best for you and your individual circumstances.
Two technologies, in particular, have proven effective in improving a person’s sexual health – GAINSWave® (for men) and Votiva (for women).
- GAINSWave® is based on a widely tested method of male enhancement called shockwave therapy. Doctors in Europe have been testing its effectiveness for Erectile Dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease for the past two decades. Pulsed acoustic waves, upon which the technology is based, have been found to improve blood flow in the penis and even repair damaged nerve endings resulting in peak sexual health, including sensitivity, and performance.
- Votiva is an advanced form of feminine rejuvenation that utilizes the latest heat and RF technology to provide a better quality of life for women who want to have more control over feminine health. Because it is noninvasive, requiring no surgery, it is faster and more comfortable when compared other options. Vaginal rejuvenation can provide you with the confidence you need and that you may have thought was gone forever.

As you age, a reduction in your body’s key hormones can cause numerous uncomfortable symptoms. These can range from sexual problems all the way to weakened bones. Fortunately, treatment is available in the form of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. An expert in balancing hormones, WholeHealth can help you restore your health and vitality. Call us or book an appointment online today.
Bioidentical Hormones Q&A
What can hormone replacement therapy do for men?
Many men experience fatigue, depression, and an inability to focus when their testosterone is imbalanced. Others see a loss of body or facial hair and increased irritability. It’s also common to experience:
- Reduced sex drive
- Erectile dysfunction
- Muscle weakness
- Weakened bones
These symptoms can seriously hinder a person’s way of life.
While a reduction in hormones is a natural part of aging, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to live with it. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy augments your body’s natural production of testosterone, restoring it to normal levels. It alleviates the symptoms, helps restore men’s health, and revitalizes their body.
What can hormone replacement therapy do for women?
When you think of estrogen, you may think of pregnancy. After all, estrogen helps prepare the uterus to receive a fertilized egg. Estrogen, however, has many other critical functions in the body. For example, it regulates the way the body uses calcium and raises levels of good cholesterol in the blood.
When they’re not producing enough estrogen, women are much more likely to have weakened bones, increasing their likelihood of suffering a bone fracture. When women go through menopause, they experience a decrease in their levels of estrogen and progesterone. Menopause can cause various symptoms, including:
- Hot flashes
- Vaginal dryness
- Increased bad cholesterol
When women receive bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, these symptoms are alleviated.
How do I know if hormone replacement therapy is right for me?
When you visit WholeHealth, our medical team takes your full medical history, consults with you about your symptoms, and does a physical examination. We then perform extensive lab tests, measuring the amount of estrogen and progesterone, or testosterone, in your blood.
If you are deficient in any of these critical hormones, our team may prescribe a regimen of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. However, hormone replacement therapy may not be right for you if you have a history of:
- Blood clots
- Heart or liver disease
- Heart attacks
Common side effects of hormone replacement therapy include bloating, headaches, and mood changes. Some patients also experience minor nausea.
If you suspect your hormones may be imbalanced, contact WholeHealth today.
Hormones are one of the body’s signal system. There is a complex system by which hormones change forms to distribute the correct signals to the body. When the balance of hormones is disrupted, many problems happen. Common signs of hormone imbalance include:
- Persistent weight gain or inability to lose weight
- Lack of energy, brain fog, memory lapses
- Anxiety, depression, irritability, mood swings
- Low libido, painful intercourse
- Cravings and digestive issues
- Insomnia and other sleep problems
At WholeHealth, we gather extensive labs tests to identify the exact balance of your current hormone production and communication. Too frequently doctors are satisfied testing only the hormones that are considered gender specific for their patients and their goal is to makes sure their patients are “in the normal range.” This approach is seriously flawed. Women and men make, and need, all of the same hormones—but they make them, and use them, in very different amounts. At WholeHealth, we test the entire cascade of adrenal hormones on all our patients. We then tailor their treatment to adjust our patients’ hormones to the “optimal” level and in perfect balance. Based on lab results, we recommend lifestyle changes and supplements to help the body build the right hormones. We prescribe natural and bioidentical hormones in the form that will be best for each individual patient. In addition to prescribing compounded bioidentical hormones, our providers can implant hormone pellets that are physiologically superior to creams or injections.

IV Center (Amino Acids)
Maintaining balance between the mind and the body is integral to good health.
Any number of chemical intolerances, sensitivities and deficiencies, however, can lead to imbalances in the brain that negatively affect mood and behavior, resulting in improper neurotransmitter functioning. Food choices, including digestion and absorption issues, may also lead to mind-body dysfunction due to what’s known as the Gut-Brain axis.
Amino acids are the central building blocks of neurotransmitters (e.g., serotonin, adrenaline, dopamine, GABA, etc.), which directly influence behavior. Without first reinvigorating the body so it can restore proper functioning of neurotransmitters, other care interventions and treatments will be less effective, and the results shorter-lived.
Studies show supplementing the body with amino acids restores natural neurotransmitter production. The most successful therapy is a 10-day course of amino acids administered via infusion followed by a long-term course of oral amino acids. Call or request an appointment online today.
Our IV Center replenishes the body’s natural supply of amino acids, enabling proper neurotransmitter signaling, helping to restore the brain and the body. This treatment can be particularly beneficial for those suffering from addiction and mood disorders.

Addiction Recovery Q&A
What causes addiction?
Addiction occurs when your brain develops a chemical dependency on a substance, altering the way the brain feels pleasure. This causes physical changes to the nerves in your brain and is often triggered by overusing or abusing substances. The environment and/or genetics may make you more likely to develop an addiction.
How is addiction treated?
When you’re going through the cycle of addiction, recovery, and relapse, you can often feel helpless. Unfortunately, the detox process for addiction is painful; many people are unable to get through it without relapsing.
Dr. Petersen, along with the rest of our medical team, begins the examination process by consulting with you about your symptoms, taking your medical history, and performing a physical examination. Once he has a better understanding of the severity of your addiction, he can formulate a treatment plan specifically tailored to your unique needs.
Step one in the treatment plan is to perform a physical 10-30 day IV detox.
WholeHealth doesn’t try to replace old drugs with new ones. By focusing on rebuilding dopamine receptors and supplying your body with nutrients and amino acids, this detox prepares your body for full recovery and significantly lowers your chance of a relapse.
Once the IV detox is complete, you are started on a behavioral health recovery program, helping you to correct addictive thinking patterns in your mind. This empowers you to strengthen yourself against your problematic urges and achieve attainable goals in the process, reducing and eliminating cravings.
To maintain recovery, you will need to optimize and maintain your body continuously. Our team will provide you with a treatment plan, year-after-year, specifically formulated to your underlying physiology and psychology. As a result, you will feel positive, sober, and focused.
When should I seek addiction recovery treatment?
You should seek addiction therapy if you’re addicted to any of the following:
Any of these addictions can significantly impact your way of life, and many of them can cause long-term health problems. You can feel empowered knowing that treatment is available to help you overcome your addiction. Call WholeHealth directly or request an appointment online.

If you do an internet search for “anti-aging” you’ll be rewarded with tens of million results appearing in under half a second. From there, you will have to wade through the products and gimmicks that promise to turn back time and to deliver you straight to the Fountain of Youth.
At WholeHealth, we believe anti-aging – restoring and rejuvenating the body – begins at the molecular and cellular level, the very building blocks of life. Headed by Andrew Petersen, DO, our goal is for our patients to look, feel and be their best, without resorting to the myriad treatments and products that merely scratch the surface. We aim to heal the whole body, not just treat the symptoms of disease, by using cutting-edge technology and the body’s own innate ability to heal itself.
To learn more about our approach to Regenerative Medicine, call us or book an appointment online.
Autoimmune diseases, which are triggered when your body gets confused and starts attacking itself, affect close to fifty million people—approximately 20 percent of population—in the U.S. These diseases often are characterized by hard-to-classify generic symptoms, such as pain, inflammation, swelling, and general discomfort and misery. Your brain, skin, joints or whole body may suffer.
Arriving at effective treatments is a challenge, relying on making an accurate assessment of underlying factors that might be contributing to the disorder. Factors that may be specific to you and no one else. Moreover, conventional or traditional medicine often falls short of making a correct diagnosis because this approach tends to throw powerful immune-suppressive drug at the problem, putting patients potentially at increased health risk.
WholeHealth matches patients suffering from autoimmune disorders with the most appropriate course of care by conducting a thorough initial diagnostic assessment and completing relevant laboratory work. A battery of health tests, tied to blood and urine samples, as well as genetic testing, enable us to assess exposure to various environmental toxins, and determine the potential presence of infectious disease. Once the underlying biology of a condition or disorder is identified (correctly diagnosed), it can be more successfully treated, with a greater likelihood of positive outcomes.
Call us or book an online appointment if you feel you might be suffering from an autoimmune disorder.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, with the overall estimate of new cases of invasive cancer expected in 2018 to be over 1.7 million – or what is the equivalent of 4,700 new cancers diagnosed each day.
Although conventional cancer treatments have substantially reduced cancer-related deaths, these therapies often produce adverse side-effects that negatively impact patients’ quality of life (QOL). Consequently, many cancer patients suffer from both the symptoms of cancer itself and, even as if not more painful, the side-effects related to conventional treatments.
Integrative oncology – a patient-centered approach to cancer care that utilizes mind and body practices, natural products, and/or lifestyle modifications from different traditions alongside conventional care – has emerged to address these concerns. Its primary aim is to optimize patient health, QOL, and clinical outcomes across the cancer care continuum, essentially empowering people to become more active participants in their healthcare before, during, and beyond cancer treatment.
WholeHealth deploys various complementary treatments to create a supportive environment as cancer patients undergo chemotherapy and radiation, toward reducing pain, anxiety, nausea, fatigue and other side-effects.

WholeHealth pursues a research-based approach to help patients achieve optimal healthy living.
The latest scientific findings and innovative treatments are incorporated into our practice. We have initiated a clinical trial (and plan to initiate others) governed by an Institutional Review Board (IRB), which protects the rights and welfare of participants involved in such investigations.
WholeHealth, in partnership with Hexagon Therapies, is currently enrolling and treating patients in a Phase 1 clinical trial measuring the effect of IV-administered Cord Blood Plasma to positively impact quality-of-life. Changes in biomarkers, telomere length, hand grip strength, and other endpoints, are being measured to further assess the functional outcomes of this study.
Planned clinical trials include those evaluating novel therapies and treatment approaches in Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, and other diseases.
Ozone therapy is a new, innovative treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in the body, making it easier for the mitochondria in your cells to repair themselves. This fights against the signs of aging, makes you feel better during the day and helps you recover from injuries more quickly. If you’re interested in optimizing your health, contact our team at WholeHealth. With offices in Provo and West Jordan, Utah, we can help you decide if ozone therapy is right for you.
Ozone Therapy Q&A
What is ozone therapy?
The mitochondria of cells heal your body through a process called electron transport. Oxygen is needed to complete this process, so the more your body has, the more quickly and efficiently it can recover. Ozone (O3) is administered into the blood via an IV drip, providing the body with the oxygen it needs.
Not only can ozone therapy help your body recover from an injury, but it also fights against free radical production, which can result in degenerative disease. Free radicals are also known to cause signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles.
This process helps to optimize your health – giving you more energy, and making you feel better during daily activities.
Which diseases can ozone therapy treat?
Because ozone therapy helps the body heal, numerous applications of the treatment exist. Many people use ozone therapy to complement traditional treatments for ailments, including:
- Heart disease
- Liver disease
- Macular degeneration
- Chronic infections
- And many more
Many people use ozone therapy because they feel sluggish throughout the day. Ozone therapy provides them with extra energy, so they look, feel, and recover better, in every aspect of their lives.
How do I know if ozone therapy is right for me?
If you’re interested in optimizing your wellness, schedule a visit to our offices to find out if ozone therapy is right for you. Because of the wide-ranging benefits, it’s not uncommon for even perfectly healthy people to regularly receive ozone therapy to improve their health.
When you come into the office, our staff starts by taking your medical history, identifying what symptoms you’re trying to alleviate, and performs a physical examination. We then go to work on a treatment plan – which may include ozone therapy – to help you optimize your health.
An IV drip is the most common administration method for Ozone therapy-50-250ml of blood is taken and put into a sterile container. The blood is treated with ozone and then reinfused through the IV.
If you’re interested in ozone therapy, call WholeHealth or request an appointment online today!
Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) therapy is based on decades of research conducted worldwide with many positive outcomes. Specifically, PEMF therapy works to:
- Reduce pain, inflammation, the effects of stress on the body, and platelet adhesion.
- Improve energy, circulation, blood and tissue oxygenation, sleep quality, blood pressure and cholesterol levels, the uptake of nutrients, cellular detoxification and the ability to regenerate cells.
- Balance the immune system and stimulate RNA and DNA.
- Accelerate repair of bone and soft tissue.
- Relax muscles.
PEMFs address impaired chemistry and thus the function of cells – which in turn, improves health. PEMFs deliver beneficial, health-enhancing EMFs and frequencies to the cells. Low frequency PEMFs of even the weakest strengths pass right through the body, penetrating every cell, tissue, organ and even bone without being absorbed or altered. As they pass through, they stimulate most of the electrical and chemical processes in the tissues. Therapeutic PEMFs are specifically designed to positively support cellular energy, resulting in better cellular health and function.
At WholeHealth, we encourage our patients to use our PEMF therapy device regularly to aid all types of healing and to improve absorption of nutrients with IV administration. A single treatment on the PEMF device is included with every consult appointment and IV treatment. We also offer packages of PEMF treatments to help in ongoing health.
Carbonic Acid Therapy
Many studies have concluded that Carbonic Acid Therapy has a proven effect on helping your cardiovascular system, responsive to the heart and blood vessels, improving circulation and helping decrease the incidence of vascular diseases. Diseases for which it can be an effective adjunct therapy include: hypertension, diabetes, coronary complications and minor vascular insufficiency. It provides a natural anti-inflammatory effect and relief from pain.
Effects of Carbonic Acid therapy:
- dilates the arteries to increase blood flow throughout the entire body
- flushes the skin temporarily to a healthy pink color
- stimulates warmth receptors in the skin, inhibits cold receptors
- reconstructs functionally-closed capillaries
- decreases blood pressure
- naturally sedates and calms the central nervous system
- reduces stress, relaxes the muscles and the mind
- is a natural anti-inflammatory compound
- is a fat-dissolving compound
At WholeHealth, we recommend Carbonic Acid Therapy using our HOCATT (Hyperthermic Ozone and Carbonic Acid Transdermal Therapy) sauna.
Developed by Moshe Feldenkrais in the 1950s, this method of treating the body involves rebuilding or reorganizing connections between brain and body. This treatment is painless and done fully clothed.
Using highly-sensitive touch and gentle, exploratory movements, the practitioner helps patients find freedom from restrictive movement patterns. The practitioner guides you through gentle movements that help your body recognize missing connections.
Practitioners are trained to detect minute resistances in movement patterns which can often represent emotional or psychological limitations, as well as physical ones. Often tiny changes bring great relief. You will be given one or two simple movements to continue with on your own.
“Feldenkrais is not just pushing muscles around; it’s changing things in the brain itself.”
– Karl Pribram, MD, PhD, neuroscientist
At WholeHealth, we recommend Feldenkrais treatments for many patients. These treatments can help with a variety of conditions including any type of pain, any type of dysfunction, such as back pain, TMJ dysfunction (jaw pain), eye problems, limping, or movement issues, PTSD, anxiety, autism, and many other conditions, both physical and neurological.
Sphenocath has shown time-tested effectiveness when it comes to treating serious chronic and episodic migraine pain. Currently there is very little to offer the chronic headache patient. Nearly two-thirds of patients discontinue prescription medications due to inadequate relief and side-effects. The efficacy of the procedure has been shown to have both immediate and sustained results. These effects are typically sustained by interrupting the chaotic signaling pathways associated with migraine.
At WholeHealth, we administer the sphenocath procedure in the office in a short timeframe, with generally immediate and often long-lasting results for migraine sufferers. We highly recommend this as an alternative to sustained use of pain medications for migraines.
Low Dose Immunotherapy
Low dose immunotherapy (LDI) is a revolutionary treatment that has been shown to provide dramatic relief of symptoms and improvement in health for patients suffering from a range of chronic illnesses. LDI works by helping the immune system restore proper balance by reducing inflammation caused by foreign invaders or allergens. LDI brings the immune system into balance, helping it to fight pathogens more effectively.
The body’s innate immune system kills a vast majority of infectious pathogens. A small number of remaining pathogens, however, continue to stimulate maladaptive inflammation response that leads to chronic illness, including chronic Lyme disease, mold, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and a wide variety of other autoimmune diseases, such as food allergies, seasonal allergies and Crohn’s disease.
At WholeHealth, we recommend LDI for patients with these conditions.
Far Infrared Rays
Have you ever noticed when you go to a waterfall, forest or the ocean there seems to be an invigorating feeling in the air?
Generally, this is due to more dense volume of negative ions in the air. It’s not surprising that we feel invigorated because research has discovered that negative ions have a positive impact on our stress regulation system and dealing with pain can be stressful. Negative ions, as well as far infrared light, like that from the sun, have benefits for pain management and general well-being.
For only $10, WholeHealth will include this therapy with any IV treatment, or for $20 you may use it independently of other treatments.
Ozone Therapy Q&A
Far InfraRed Light
- Increases blood circulation
- Relieves muscle and joint pain
- Removes toxins
- Reduces stress and physical fatigue
- Regenerates nerve and muscle tissue
- Relief from pain and paralysis symptoms
- Alkalizes blood
- Purifies blood
- Balances autonomic nervous system
Used in combination, Far Infrared Thermotherapy and Ions cause:
The circulatory system is responsible for the delivery of oxygen-rich blood and the removal of wastes. Far infrared rays (FIR) have been found to enhance blood circulation in human skin, which eventually induces an increase in temperature of the body tissues. FIR was discovered by NASA to be the safest and most beneficial light wave to the human body, and NASA used FIR to support the cardiovascular health of its astronauts.
Increased Body Temperature
- Increase in skin microcirculation, skin temperature and core temperature.
- Blood vessels dilate to help blood circulate faster and more efficiently. This allows the blood to transport oxygen faster to the organs or damaged tissues that need it.
- A 1-degree Celsius increase in core body temperature results in up to 36% increase in immune function, 12% increase in metabolism and 50% increase in enzymatic activities.
The cell is the most fundamental part of the human body and cellular health has a direct correlation to our overall health. The mitochondria in cells through metabolism of oxygen and nutrients produce the energy we need to live and to heal. The FIR heat stimulates the mitochondria and metabolism to produce energy.
Immune System Boost
- Increasing the core temperature can induce an artificial fever that stimulates a type of immune cell called a CD8+ cytotoxic T-cell, which helps destroy infected cells.
- Increasing the core body temperature is beneficial, as viruses and bacteria are susceptible to heat.
- Negative ions support the correct charge differential across the cell membrane and support the cell membrane integrity to resist the effects of viruses & bacteria.
Detoxification in the Body
Far infrared rays support detoxification in the body in multiple ways: induced sweat to rid the body of wastes through the skin; more efficient cells and cell membranes; and support to the cardiovascular and limbic systems to help release the body’s waste build-up. Negative ions act as anti-oxidants and help to alkalise & purify the blood and therefore help reduce acidity that causes painful inflammation and subsequent toxicity.
Destress and Clearer Thinking
Negative ions have been demonstrated to help mental function and help regulate moods – stress, anxiety and depression – sleep patterns and the autonomic nervous system. The deep warmth generated from far infrared rays can produce heat shock proteins (HSP), or stress proteins, to help the body deal with environmental stress.
More and more physicians increasingly are recognizing that inflammation is a precursor and companion to many chronic and serious diseases.
Thermal imaging (thermography) allows us to “see” inflammation in the body, which can manifest early or can be confirmed by other signs of cardiovascular disease, liver/detoxing dysfunction, arthritis/joint pain, diabetes, immune deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, possible carotid artery calcification, leaky gut, hormone dysregulation and others. Thermography creates a high-definition digital map of the body that depicts temperature patterns. These patterns help detect abnormalities in blood flow. Increased blood flow is associated with inflammation, with inflamed areas of the body visually shown on a thermogram.
Thermography is excellent technology for early-stage disease screening, pain diagnostics, as well as full body imaging. At the same time, it is not painful, non-invasive, and emits No radiation. Screenings conducted over time can help to track the development of disease and aid in many medical and alternative treatments. Inflammation may become visible long before other signs and symptoms of health dysfunction appear. For instance, inflammation in the breast can be seen as much as five years before a lump would be found in a mammogram. Thermography is not used to diagnose disease/cancer, instead is an early-warning tool and shows the health of the body. It differs from other screenings in that is allows us to observe dynamic physiological changes on the body. In other words, the technology shows what is happening NOW, as opposed to what has happened in the past. It is a powerful tool for following and monitoring healing processes.
At WholeHealth, we recommend that patients use thermal imaging for breast screenings, whole body screenings, and to monitor conditions of particular concern.
Allergic reactions range from simple annoyances to life-threatening emergencies. It’s important to stay on top of allergies by working with a physician you trust. The staff at WholeHealth is dedicated to helping patients with moderate to severe allergies experience everyday relief. Contact one of our offices to learn more today, or book online.
What causes allergies?
Allergies occur when your immune system – your body’s natural defense system – overreacts to factors in your environment. When the body fights off harmful bacteria or viruses, it creates antibodies to defend itself; an allergic reaction occurs when your body has this same response to things that are otherwise harmless because it thinks these things are trying to attack you.
Common allergy symptoms include:
- Itchy eyes
- Runny nose
- Trouble breathing
Most allergic reactions are mild. However, some can be life threatening.
What are the different types of allergies?
Various types of allergies exist, with the most common ones including:
- Foods: Certain foods (milk, eggs, nuts, etc.) can cause allergic reactions in some people (usually hereditary).
- Medication: Allergic reactions to different types of medication are also common. If you have a history of allergic reactions to a particular medication, make sure you let WholeHealth staff know when providing your medical history.
- Animals and Insects: Some people experience severe allergic reactions when they are stung by certain insects. The body overreacts when the venom enters, causing redness, swelling, itching, pain and other symptoms. Allergic reactions to certain animals are also common, usually causing respiratory problems.
- Latex and Other Synthetic Materials: Latex allergies are not uncommon. Cosmetics, false nails, and hair extensions can also trigger an allergic reaction.
- Seasonal Allergies (hay fever): Finally, seasonal allergies are among the most common, brought on by increased exposure to trees, grass, pollens, or weeds. Seasonal allergies can occur for up to nine months out of the year.
How are allergies treated?
To help provide relief from your allergies, WholeHealth staff perform a physical examination, taking your medical history, and talking to you about the symptoms you’re experiencing. We may perform certain tests to ensure the cause of your symptoms is allergies and not some other illness.
After we determine that allergies are indeed the problem, we will likely prescribe antihistamines, allergy eye drops, or another type of allergy medication to help alleviate your symptoms.
Our trained staff work with you to find the best course of treatment to manage your allergic reactions. Working in tandem with traditional therapies, we create a treatment plan specifically formulated to relieve your unique set of symptoms.

How can I optimize my health to prevent aging?
To prevent aging, you must maintain a healthy lifestyle. Eating a diet made up of nutritious foods, exercising regularly, and scheduling appointments with your physician are all important parts of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Unfortunately, this isn’t always enough. The medical system in the United States is structured only to help when there’s already something wrong with you. That’s a poor way to ensure you’re in the best health possible. By taking a preventive approach to medicine, WholeHealth can help you to optimize your health.
What treatments are available to prevent aging?
Our staff starts by completing a full evaluation of your current health. That includes taking your medical history, consulting with you about your sleep/eating habits, and performing extensive laboratory tests. With this information, we can formulate a treatment plan to help you fight the signs of aging, including nutritional counseling – a course of action on eating the best foods for improving your health. Optimizing your nutrients is often the first step in fighting the signs of aging. WE may also prescribe a detox protocol if we discover that your body is high in toxins. These treatments help sculpt the body and give you more energy.
Treatments such as plasma injections, ozone therapy, and pulsed electromagnetic fields can aid your body in repairing and recycling your cells, while also reducing the number of free radicals in your body. Free radicals are atoms with unpaired electrons; they are known to cause damage on the cellular level.
When should I start an anti-aging regimen?
The sooner you start optimizing your health with us, the more damage to your body you’ll prevent, and the better you’ll feel. There’s no time like the present to start revitalizing your health and improving your everyday life.
If you’re interested in what an anti-aging regimen can do for you, contact WholeHealth with locations in Provo and West Jordan, Utah, today, or schedule an appointment online.
An unexplained rash can be disconcerting all on its own, but when it’s accompanied by headaches, sore muscles, and fever, it can be downright nerve-racking. Lyme disease is an incredibly common infection in the United States, and it’s not just those who spend their time outdoors that can get it. If you believe you may have Lyme disease, contact Andrew Petersen, DO, at WholeHealth with locations in Provo and West Jordan, Utah. Dr. Petersen is a leading expert on the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme.
Lyme Disease Q&A
What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is an infection that’s spread through infected tick bites. Although most people who get tick bites don’t get Lyme disease, it’s still important to see your doctor if you notice one. While the disease is most common in the United States, it can also be found in Canada, Europe, and Asia.
If you have Lyme disease, you may notice a red rash that spreads outward in a circle from where the tick bit you. As more time passes without treatment, the rash will get larger and larger. Symptoms of Lyme disease in the early stages include: headaches, sore muscles, and fever. However, if left untreated, you may begin to experience more serious symptoms, such as:
- Swelling joints
- Tingling in hands, feet, and back
- Lack of energy
- Lack of focus
- Weakness or paralysis in the face
Because you usually get tick bites when you are engaged in physical activity, you might be too distracted to realize you’ve gotten one.
How is Lyme disease diagnosed?
Dr. Petersen talks with you about your symptoms, takes your medical history, and performs a physical examination of your body. He may ask you questions about your recent activities to help determine whether a recent tick bite is likely or not.
He performs highly extensive lab tests, including an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test, which can detect whether certain antibodies are present. These antibodies could indicate the presence of Lyme disease. Once you have been diagnosed, Dr. Petersen will begin treatment.
Treatment for Lyme disease consists of antibiotics, which typically cure the disease within three weeks.
How can I prevent Lyme disease?
The best method for preventing Lyme disease is avoiding tick bites. When you venture outside, cover your body as much as possible: wear a hat, a long-sleeved shirt, and long pants tucked into your socks. Use bug repellant and check your pets for ticks, as they sometimes track them into the house.
If you believe you may have Lyme disease, call Dr. Petersen at WholeHealth or request an appointment online today.
No one should have to live with pain. Unfortunately, chronic pain is an everyday reality for millions of Americans, making it difficult for them to function both at home and at work. If you’re experiencing chronic pain, contact WholeHealth. Call or request an appointment online today.
Pain Mitigation Q&A
What is pain mitigation?
In the United States, many doctors fear they’ll suffer consequences for prescribing pain-relieving meds and will only prescribe them when the pain has become so intense that it’s crippling. Unfortunately, when the pain has already reached this level, developing narcotic dependency is a near certainty.
Pain mitigation is one way to help your overall well-being by managing the pain that’s already present, making you less likely to become addicted to prescribed medication. By finding a root source of the pain, pain mitigation resolves the core issues that cause the brain to receive and send pain signals.
What pain mitigation treatments are available?
There are many ways Dr. Petersen and his team can help to alleviate your pain.
For example, the Feldenkrais Method, which was developed by a nuclear physicist, combines knowledge of the western and eastern medical arts to find the cause. During this treatment, Dr. Petersen uses precise movements that reconnect your muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems.
There are many other pain mitigation treatments available, including:
- IV ketamine
- Compounded ketamine preparations
- Herbal pain therapies
- Sphenocath procedures
- Low-intensity laser therapy
- Prozolone and prolotherapy injections
Pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) also helps cells repair themselves, alleviating pain. It accelerates the fusion of broken bones; speeds up the wound healing process; reduces pain and tissue-swelling; and can even help to treat mood disorders. PEMF also helps with cell repair, renewal and replacement.

Sports Recovery Q&A
Which sports injuries are most common?
“Contact” sports can be dangerous, so it’s important to strengthen the body to protect against injury. The most common sports injuries include:
- Ankle Sprain
- Groin Pull/Strain
- Hamstring Pain
- Shin Splints
- Knee Injury
- Tennis Elbow
Because it’s common to get an injury when competing, it’s helpful to work with a doctor that specializes in pain mitigation and injury recovery. Specialized treatments are available that can boost the body’s natural healing process. Becoming the “best athlete you can be” starts with maintaining an excellent diet, training regularly, and teaming up with a physician to help you perform at your most optimal.
When Dr. Petersen and the rest of the WholeHealth team providing you with the treatments your body needs to repair itself, you stand a greater chance of recovering sooner, and more fully, without worrying about taking weeks off due to a sports injury.
How can I recover from a sports injury?
Many treatments can help you recover from a sports injury, not the least of which is ozone therapy. Your body heals itself in the mitochondria of the cell through a process called electron transport, which requires oxygen. The more oxygen available, the easier it is for the body to heal quickly.
During ozone therapy, Dr. Petersen and our staff draw blood, administers oxygen to that blood, and finally, re-infuses it into your body through an IV.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF) can also help to speed up the recovery process. This treatment uses pulses that pass through the body, helping cells to reset and heal themselves. Athletes commonly use this treatment to optimize their performance.
When is it necessary to seek sports recovery therapy?
You should seek treatment whenever you believe your sports injury is impacting your daily activities or causing you significant pain. Without the expertise of a skilled physician, your recovery time is likely to be much longer; in some cases, your injury simply won’t heal without medical help.
If you’re an athlete, you always want to perform your best. In fact, even if you don’t have an injury, many athletes regularly undergo treatment to optimize their performance. Contact Dr. Petersen and the medical team at WholeHealth today to learn how.
